Jessica Alba's hair was sleek, fresh, and sophisticated at this year's Met Gala. It was what all summer hairstyles aspire to be: casual and easy, yet put-together. We spoke with her hairstylist Davy Newkirk on the inspiration behind her hair—plus exactly how he created the look.

What kind of look were you going for?

Because her dress was so severe, and since we decided to do an extreme eye look and white eyeliner for her makeup, we wanted to make sure that the hair offset [that]. The hair was rumpled and everyday looking, [playing off] the severity of the dress and the eyeliner. Her hair is an asymmetrical bob right now and I destroyed it to give it the disheveled second-day hair look that we were going for.
