On the beach at St Kilda, a chilled breeze slinks in over the frigid waters of Port Phillip Bay.

Even the kite surfers have fled.

And there on the cold sand stand three young women.

Inside the West Beach Bathers Pavilion, hundreds of genetically perfect creatures, both male and female, patiently await their turn to strut the floorboards in the hope of being chosen to appear on the David Jones runway alongside supermodels Jessica Gomes, Montana Cox and Jason Dundas in the department store's upcoming spring/summer season launch.

Most of the women are mercifully clad in warmer garb - though each in skyscraping high heels - but the attractive lads are required to strip off their shirts and pony walk bare chested up and down the floorboards, walking in time to thumping beats.
